About the Mosaic:
You will make a colorful mosaic that will focus on the ancient “Chi Rho” design. The “Chi Rho” design is one of the earliest Christian symbols, formed by the first two (capital) letters—chi and rho (ΧΡ)—of the Greek word ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ (Christos). The Chi-Rho symbol was first used by Saint Constantine the Great (4th century) who was also the first Christian Roman Emperor. Ancient Church tradition tells us that Roman Emperor Constantine ordered that the “Chi Rho” symbol be emblazoned on the shields of his soldiers to ensure protection from Rome’s foreign enemies. Hand tools will be provided and required for cutting and chopping marble/stone materials. Although the class is tailored for adults, teenagers (13 and over) are welcome to register if they are eager learners.
